How to pivot your blog towards growth?

There will come a time in your blogging journey when you will need to pivot your blog in order to achieve greater growth. This could be for a variety of reasons, such as wanting to move from hobby blogging to making it your career, or simply feeling like you’ve hit a plateau in your current blogging efforts.

For many bloggers (including myself), the reason is turning our blogging journey into a career in order to run a full-time blog and have a beautiful life.

Blogging can change your life, but whatever the reason for wanting to pivot your blog into a full-time job, there are certain steps you can take to make sure that the transition is successful. Here are some tips on how to pivot your blog towards growth:

  1. Define your reasons for pivoting.
  2. Evaluate your current blogging situation.
  3. Set some realistic goals.
  4. Make a plan of action.
  5. Start making changes.

My reasons to pivot…

I started writing on impulse, seeing my wife struggle with endometriosis and fibromyalgia. Both chronic conditions impacted her mental health, she became anxious, developed OCD, and depression becoming suicidal.

Long story short, I had to deal with the new normal on my own not to burden my wife with my own worries. It took a huge toll on our marriage.

But blogging saved our marriage. It saved me from boredom and going insane while staying home to take care of my ill wife. I finally had a way of expressing my own feelings without having to burden my wife with them.

This is how my first health blog was born.

If you are interested in endometriosis, fibromyalgia, or overall finding ways to cope with the new normal of having a chronically ill partner, I strongly recommend you to visit my Worry Head blog.

But moving on… there was a moment when I decided that I was going to take blogging more seriously, and I decided to pivot my blog towards growth in order to make some extra money to support myself and my wife through the challenges endometriosis and fibromyalgia predominantly brought to our lives.

And when I began to figure out how to monetize my blog, I realized how many bloggers make a living from it, and I decided to go even further and pivot my blogging journey into a career.

Your reasons to pivot your blog towards growth.

There are many reasons to pivot blogging into a career.

Maybe you want to move it from a hobby to a full-time job, maybe your existing blog doesn’t get enough traffic and you want to scale it, or maybe you’ve been blogging for a while but not seeing any results you feel like giving up?

If it’s the latter, don’t quit blogging, pivot instead to see some results. Replace your frustrations with growth.

Whatever your reasons, it’s important to be clear about why you want to pivot in the first place. This will help you set better goals (see next point), and make a plan of action that is more likely to lead to success.

So let me give you some insight on what you can do to pivot your blog towards growth by expanding on the following tips:

  • Define your reasons for pivoting.
  • Evaluate your current blogging situation.
  • Set some realistic goals.
  • Make a plan for pivoting.
  • Start making changes.
Pivot your blog towards growth 1

1. Define your reasons for pivoting.

Before you even start making any changes to your blog, it’s important that you first take the time to define your reasons for wanting to pivot.

  • What are your goals?
  • What do you hope to achieve by making this change?

Being clear about your motivations from the outset will help to keep you focused and on track as you make the necessary changes to your blog.

For most bloggers, growing their target audience is what brings the most money, therefore they focus on this area. The target audience is an audience that will be the most interested in what you have to say, making them more likely to convert into subscribers or customers.

An email list should be on your to-do list when considering moving on from your blogging journey into a career.

2. Evaluate your current blogging situation.

The next step is to take a good, hard look at your current blogging situation.

  • What’s working well?
  • What isn’t working so well?

This evaluation will give you a better idea of what changes need to be made in order for your blog to start growing again.

If you feel like you’ve hit a plateau in terms of traffic, then you might need to focus on promoting your blog more effectively. Alternatively, if you’re not happy with the quality of your content, then you might need to invest more time in creating well-written and informative posts.

Ideally, to avoid endless social media promotion, which in my personal opinion is a total waste of time, you should focus on SEO (Search Engines Optimization) in order to grow your target audience organically.

3. Set some realistic goals.

Once you’ve defined your reasons for wanting to pivot and evaluated your current blogging situation, it’s time to set some realistic goals.

  • What do you really want to achieve with your blog?

Be sure to set both short-term and long-term goals so that you have a clear idea of what you need to do in order to start seeing results. And don’t forget to make your goals measurable so that you can track your progress along the way.

I’m a visionary guy, I can see the way ahead of many bloggers, and I know where I’m heading.

It doesn’t mean that I should neglect mini goals. I don’t. I actually set plenty of short-term targets, which helps me stay focused and keep growing rather than being stuck.

And when you achieve your little goals, it gives you a great sense of satisfaction, and makes you closer to your main goal – a full-time blogging career!

4. Make a plan for pivoting.

Now that you know what changes need to be made and what goals you want to achieve, it’s time to make a plan of action. This plan should have specific steps you need to take in order to make and pivot your blog successfully.

Be sure to include a timeline for each of your tasks so that you can stay on track and avoid getting overwhelmed. And don’t forget to enlist the help of others if you need it!

Some of these tasks may include:

  • Updating old blog posts.
  • Writing new content.
  • Learning SEO.
  • Building an email list.

All the above can be achieved if you use AI writing tools such as Jasper.ai and SurferSEO.

Jasper.ai is an AI writing assistant that will help you write better content faster, while SurferSEO is an SEO tool that will help you optimize your content for search engines. Thanks to A.I. technology, you don’t need to be an expert writer or an expert in SEO anymore.

5. Start making changes.

Once you have a plan in place, it’s time to start making changes and pivot your blog in the right direction. This could involve anything from updating your blog design to changing the focus of your content.

Whatever changes you decide to make, be sure not to get stuck with constant redesigning (many bloggers do) and to do so gradually so as not to overwhelm yourself or your readers.

And always keep your goals in mind so that you can measure your progress along the way.

Making a successful pivot can be a challenge, but it’s definitely possible with the right planning and effort. By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to taking your blog to the next level.

The importance of business mindset.

If you don’t treat your blog seriously, your mindset has to change. Blogging isn’t a hobby these days, blogging is a full-blown business. If you want to be successful, you need to start thinking of your blog as a real business.

Blogging can change your life, it really can, so you should blog smarter not harder, and focus on pivoting the right way.

Use these tips to change your mindset and start thinking of your blog as a business:

  • Always believe in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will. You need to have faith in your ability to succeed if you ever want to make it big as a blogger.
  • Be professional. To be taken seriously, you need to act and look professional. This means creating a professional blog design, using proper grammar, and being polite and respectful to others.
  • Be patient. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is a successful blog. It takes time, patience, and hard work to achieve success.
  • Be prepared to work hard. Blogging isn’t easy, and it definitely isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme. If you’re not prepared to work hard, you’ll never make it as a professional blogger.
  • Above all, be dedicated and persistent. Success seldom comes easy, so you need to be persistent in your efforts. Never give up on your dream of being a successful blogger, no matter how hard it gets.

Making the decision to pivot your blog is a big one, but if you’re serious about taking your blog to the next level, it’s a decision you need to make. By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to making a successful pivot and achieving your blogging goals.
